The sixth edition of the School Games has begun with thousands of students battling for country and glory.
The major competition, that’s being organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee and runs until October 3, aims to create a nurturing environment for identifying and developing young talent. The Games also fosters sportsmanship and teamwork among Bahrain's future athletes.
According to a representative, this is ‘the largest school sports event to date, featuring around 5,000 students from 80 countries competing in 25 different sports’.
That includes basketball, handball, beach volleyball, athletics, swimming, fencing, and more, staged across multiple venues such as Umm Al Hassam Basketball Hall for basketball and Isa Sports City for beach volleyball athletics. Al Jazair Beach will be set for the cycling and sailing events.
During yesterday’s beach volleyball competition for the boys, Modern School (A) defeated Asian School (A) 2-0, and the Sheikh Abdulaziz School (A) were victorious against St Christopher’s School (A) 2-0. Several other schools showcased similar commanding triumphs.
For the girls' competitions, Al-Muharraq School (B) and Shaikha Hessa School (A) each won by two clean sets.
The Ahmed Al-Omran School dominated Hawar School in the boys' handball event, winning 59-23.
