Chappell Roan donated thousands of dollars to Backline, a US-based charity, after an emotional speech at the Grammys.
According to the charity, which helps artist’s struggling with mental health, it’s been ‘blown away’ by the support it’s had since the singer called for better rights for musicians as she collected her award.
“We really appreciate her using that moment to call for action to change the music industry,” says Hilary Gleason, the charity director.
Hilary thinks Chappell is ‘taking it one step further than a speech’ but she’ll need more support to make sure there is a real change.
“This is a movement and it’s gonna take every person in the industry calling for this,” she adds.
Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX and Noah Kahan also matched Chappell’s $25,000 donation.
“I’m inspired by you,” Noah says on Instagram.
“Hey @chappellroan I am gonna match your $25K to support artists' access to healthcare,” the ‘BRAT’ singer added.
In a follow-up post, Chappell made it clear that fans shouldn’t donate anything.
“Fans, y’all don’t have to donate a damn penny. This is one of many opportunities for the industry powers to show up for artists,” she wrote on Instagram.
