Bahrain continues to shine at the Gulf Youth Games having notched a total of 60 medals.

The kingdom’s national teams won 20 gold, 15 silver and 25 bronze medals in various sports such as swimming, table tennis, triathlon, billiards, and cycling.

Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, a member of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and president of the Bahrain Table Tennis Federation, recently presented medals to the victorious Bahraini table tennis team in the UAE.

Fatima Al-Aali won gold for her performances in the young women’s doubles and singles categories. The youth team received silver medals in the team and doubles categories, while bronze medals were awarded for the young women’s doubles and singles events. The team achieved a total tally of eight medals.

Meanwhile, the Bahraini swimming team made a spectacular debut at the Gulf Youth Games, capturing six medals, including four golds. Young swimmer Sanaa Lillian dominated the under-18 girls' freestyle races, securing gold in both the 800 metres and 400 metres. Amani Al-Obaidly also achieved golden glory in the 400-metre backstroke along with Aya Adel in the 50-meter breaststroke.

Additionally, Shahad Abdulaziz and Hashem Mohammed both earned bronze in their respective 100-metre backstroke races.

Whereas Abdul Rahman Al-Hassan of the Bahrain national triathlon team is on a roll as he clinched his second gold in the duathlon race. This victory follows his previous day’s triumph in the triathlon race.

His teammate, Ahmed Tariq Al-Hallaq, captured silver medal, adding to his previous day's bronze in the triathlon. Their outstanding performances brought the triathlon team’s total to four medals.

In the cycling competition, Mahdi Hassan Jawad added a bronze to his collection from the individual time trial for the youth category. This race marked his fourth medal at the Games. The Bahrain cycling team wrapped up their participation with a total of four bronze medals across the junior and youth categories.

Bahraini billiards players and brothers, Haider and Hussein Marum, have advanced to the semi-finals of the 9-ball competition after each securing victories in their respective quarter-final matches. The brothers will face each other in a familial showdown to determine who will advance to the finals.

The Bahrain national fencing team arrived over the weekend, making them the final contingent to join the first Gulf Youth Games. The team will begin its competitive journey on Monday and Tuesday at the Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah.

Participating in both individual and team events for the épée and foil disciplines will be Abdul Rahman Tariq Shamal, Hussein Naeem Karmastji, Omar Abdullah Bu Khalifa, Nour Firas Al-Jowder, Sumaya Muhammad Bu Hazza, and Zainab Ahmed Al Majid.

The Gulf Youth Games end on May 2.
